Double-bogey a body blow for Dillas
A double-bogey at the par-four 18 left Jarryd Dillas wondering what might have been after an inconsistent third round at the Copa de las Americas in Argentina.
The Bermudian fired a level par 72 yesterday, grabbing five birdies in a round that also included two double-bogeys and a bogey.
It all went wrong over the closing holes for Dillas, who reached the turn at two-under.
He moved to three under at 13, but then had a double-bogey five at the par three 14.
Even so, Dillas looked like carding an impressive round when he rattled off consecutive birdies at 15 and 16 to get back to three under.
It was then that the wheels came off however. First he bogeyed the 17, and as the nerves took hold he double-bogeyed the last to finish at even par for the round.
Dillas, who is six-over for the tournament, started the day 11th overall in the individual standings and is now in three-way tie for tenth.
Laura Robinson meanwhile put her miserable two first rounds behind her to also card an impressive level par 72.
After bogey-plagued rounds of 88 and 87, Robinson hit two birdies and two bogeys yesterday to stay at 31-over par.
Her much-improved performance saw her climb three places in the individual women's rankings to 20.
While Dillas and Robinson were enjoying good days on the course, team-mates Nick Jones and Ebonie Burgess continued their rather miserable weeks.
Jones carded his second consecutive round of six-over par.
His 78 included seven bogeys, and a solitary birdie at the par four 17, and leaves him 26 in the men's standings on 21-over par.
Bermuda are still 11th in the men's team competition with a combined total of 27-over par.
Like Robinson, Burgess had a better day yesterday, but she still shot five-over par to leave her on 37-over for the tournament.
The pair are 68-over par, four shots ahead of bottom-placed Guatemala.
In the overall competition, Bermuda remain tenth of 11 teams on 95-over par, 29 shots adrift of Mexico who are ninth.
