Estwanik eyes race hat-trick

Another bumper entry is expected for the popular Fairmont to Fairmont Race.

Chris Eswanik will be gunning for a third straight win in the 33rd Fairmont to Fairmont 7.2 mile road race this Sunday.

Eswanik and Victoria Fiddick were last year's male and female winners, while 2008 saw the former US professional and his wife Ashley Estwanik take the honours.

First run in 1978 as the Princess to Princess, the race was Mid Atlantic Athletic Club's first organised event.

Also on Sunday, a Junior 3K race will be held, beginning at the Heron Bay MarketPlace and ending at The Fairmont Southampton.

Special-needs students at Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy will benefit from the event, with $5 from every race entry being donated to The Friends of Hope Academy, the charitable organisation affiliated with the school. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Bermuda will match the donation dollar-for-dollar.

The winner of this year's grand prize draw (open to all race participants) will enjoy a three-night stay for two at The Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston and two American Airlines tickets, good for travel anywhere in the US, Caribbean, Bahamas, Canada or Mexico.

The Juniors 3K race, for runners aged 15 and under, will begin at 8.30 a.m. Prizes will be given to the top three male and female finishers in three categories: age group 8 to 10, 11 to 12 and 13 to 15.

Runners can enter online at www.maac.bm or at the Sportseller in the Washington Mall.

The deadline for paper entries is 4 p.m. today while online registration closes at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Late entries can be made at race number pick-up at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
