This season just keeps on getting better and better for Bermuda middle distance star Aaron Evans.

Yesterday he followed his recent silver medal success in the NCAA's with another second place finish, this time at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Florida.

The 800 metre runner, still only 20 years of age, finished in a time of one minute 47.79 seconds.

Later this month the University of Georgia student will be looking to go one better by grabbing gold at the CAC Games in Puerto Rico.

It was a very different story for Evans' team-mate Tre Houston who narrowly missed out on reaching the NACAC 200m final on Saturday.

He did achieve a new personal best though, dropping his time from 21.24 seconds to 21.04 – and was just one hundredth of a second away from qualifying for the final. Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president, Donna Watson, said both Bermuda athletes were finding their form ahead of the CAC Games.

"Aaron should receive a hero's welcome with the season he has had," she said. "Tre had the most unfortunate luck in the 200 metres.

"He placed third in the 200m with a personal best of 21.04 seconds, having one of the top eight times in the semi-finals. Unfortunately they took the top two in each heat and the fastest loser with another athlete having a time of 21.03, just beating out Tre for the eighth spot.

"Tre is quite pleased with the time as his prior best was 21.24.

"This puts him in a good position for the CAC Games."

Athletes from 32 IAAF member-nations competed in the Under-23 Championships at the Miramar Ansin Sports Complex.

The event is primarily for athletes too old for the Carifta Games but not yet ready for the professional level.
