Everyone must have a vision
Before I get into the topic this week I want to say thank you to all the readers who had sent me their comments after last weeks column.
I do appreciate your time and response.
My team travelled up to Massachusetts last week on Friday to play a Saturday night game against Massachusetts, a new team with a 1-10 record, as they continue to get themselves adjusted to the league.
We know we must not let our guard down no matter what. These are the games we cannot take for granted, we need to win and cannot afford to be complacent.
After the first half we were leading 18-5 which allowed us room in the second half to secure the win.
We came out of the game wining 37-5 – it was a good win for us as we move our record to eight wins and two losses.
We want to win another championship and to do so we need to maintain our focus and set high goals every game we play.
This leads me to this week's topic and it's all about having vision.
Vision: the ability or an instance of great perception, especially of future developments. — Collins Concise Dictionary
This is just to remind people that it's okay to dream, it's okay to project and set goals that to others may seem like fantasy, that it's okay to map out what you want in life no matter how far fetched it might seem.
It's your right to want to accomplish something great. It's your right to have a goal. It's your right to have an idea that you might put forward.
Vision has everything to do with what you want in life, what you want for you as a being. Vision doesn't mean that you have to be able to readily see and touch something, it's about having desire and foresight to reach for that which might not be seen or touched, but can be made real through perseverance and great effort.
On the soccer field my players that have vision are able to make the pass or cut out the play because they foresee the moves of their own players as well as the opposition, they are able to read the game and see plays that others don't.
The people out there that have this vision we tend to call progressive thinkers, who are people that go out and say, 'This is what I want', and then go after it, they do whatever is necessary for them to succeed, they study, they train their mind, body and spirit.
We have others that are so down on themselves, so concerned about what others might think and what others are doing, that they never focus on what they actually want in life.
Then you have some that simply have no desire to dream, they don't have any goals, and that is something I've seen a lot more of lately, especially from some of my young people in Bermuda.
It's a sad state when you find so many people walking around with eyes wide open, yet they can't see see anything in front of them, whether real or imagined.
There are even many out there doing positive things in society, helping people achieve certain things, which offers a great feeling, but what about their own vision, own goals, who pushes them that are always pushing others?
They too must have some goals, some dreams that do not involve them living vicariously through the dreams of others they are helping.
As for a lot of my young people that may have missed the boat, or are on a boat yet don't have a vision of what lies ahead they need to develop a vision or risk falling behind.
They must learn to think outside the box of what their friends are doing, where their friends are going, because each of us have our own destiny and each must have our own vision.
We must all understand that without a vision the search for our own destiny is made harder.
There are many that want to reach that destiny without experiencing the process, without ever taking up the challenge to just go for it.
Those are the same people that pin all their hopes on winning the lottery; they want the fast, easy way. There's nothing wrong with playing the lottery and winning it can be construed as a vision, but in whose hands does it rest?
Do you ever go sleep and dream about achieving certain things? We all do.
You sleep and dream about having everything in the world, everything is rosy, and then you wake up and nothing's there.
Do we take those dreams, grab them and work towards that which we saw or look to go back to sleep?
It's almost as if we're able to see and grasp so much while we're sleeping, but once we wake up and actually open our eyes we become blind to everything.
Until Next Time!
