First Division beckons for Robin Hood and MR Onions
Robin Hood and MR Onions have moved a step closer to sealing their places in the second-tier of Bermuda football.
A meeting of the Bermuda Football Association executive committee has recomended that the two former Commercial League clubs be admitted to the First Division.
All that remains is for the Semi-Annual Congress meeting, due to be held towards the end of this month, to accept that recomendation.
While the Congress could still deny Hood and Onions a place in the new league structure put in place for next season, it is highly unlikely that they would do so.
And the executive committee seem to think that the decision is as good as made with one revealing that the BFA were already planning next season with Hood and Onions in mind.
The Premier Division has already been expanded to 12 teams, and an expanded First Division would feature 11.
The other Commercial League clubs have already gone their own way and established the Corona Football League, which will be played at the soon to be re-developed BAA Field.
A new synthetic pitch is being laid, which will be installed by FieldTurf, the Canadian company that created the new BFA facility at Gym Field.
As part of the revamping of BAA, new floodlights will also be installed in a re-development that is likely to cost upwards of $1million, and which the club hope to have completed by the middle of August.
