Gilbert on fire for Bermuda
Bermuda 298 for six
Bahamas 104
Off spinner Joshua Gilbert spun his way to career-best figures to guide Bermuda to a third straight win in the ICC Americas Region Under-15 Championships at Southampton Oval yesterday.
Gilbert, who represented an Americas Development Select at this year's Clico Under-15 Tournament in the Caribbean, seized five for 15 off 6.4 overs – his first five-wicket haul – as Bermuda skittled out opponents Bahamas in 31.4 overs.
The Somerset all-rounder was introduced into his team's attack as a third change bowler and his arrival triggered a lower order collapse that saw the visitors lose their last six bats for 30 runs.
Earlier, Bermuda skipper Darrell came up six runs shy of a century when he was left stranded on 94 after his team's quota of overs expired.
The Willow Cuts all-rounder, who was a reserve for Somerset in last week's Cup Match classic, smashed ten fours off 84 balls and shared in a massive 100 run fifth-wicket partnership with Jonte Smith - son of Cleveland player/coach Clay Smith.
Smith achieved his half-century off 64 balls and also added 57 runs for the second wicket with Shea Pitcher (19), grandson of well-known cricket umpire Wilbur Pitcher.
Bermuda take on Canada at Lords tomorrow and USA on Saturday at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
