Goater shows class is permanent
North Village 3 PHC 3
Super-sub Shaun Goater rolled back the years to inspire North Village to fight-back from three goals down and earn a draw against PHC at BAA Field.
Village coach Goater turned the game on its head after coming on midway through the second half of last night's Dudley Eve match to bag a quickfire brace – his first Rams' goals for nearly two decades.
His first strike saw him superbly round PHC 'keeper Raymond Glasford after being put clean through by an exquisite Jonathon Briers slide-rule pass, while his second came from the penalty spot to draw Village level after Goater was adjudged to have been hauled down in the box. Skipper Sammy DeGraff had earlier scored Village's first goal after heading home Jason Lee's chipped pass to reduce their three-goal deficit.
Cecoy Robinson scored two second half goals for PHC who took the lead at the end of the first half through winger Casey Castle.
PHC coach Kyle Lightbourne was full of praise for his opposite number, Goater, who had shown that "the old boys still have class".
"Shaun came on and changed the match for Village," said Lightbourne.
"We were cruising until that point. His first was a great finish but I thought the second shouldn't have been a penalty."
He added: "But I'm happy with start to the season we've had, although I've not been surprised by it. We're unbeaten after five games and lets not forget PHC are a team that have won five trophies in the last two seasons."
Both teams progress to the next stage of the competition.

Hamilton Parish 1
Devonshire Cougars 0
A lone strike from Angelo Cannonier was enough to steal all three points for Hamilton Parish as they saw off Devonshire Cougars in the final group 'A' match in the Dudley Eve.
Having lost their first match to group winners Dandy Town, the side needed to win by five clear goals if they were to advance, but it wasn't meant to be for the East Enders.
Cannonier's strike came in the 13th minute courtesy of a sloppy attempt to clear Cougars lines that fell to the lanky striker who slid the ball past Ricardo Brangman.
In fairness it was what the side deserved considering they had bossed the match in the opening 20 minutes as their opponents tried to settle down.
Cougars began to find their way early in the second half but couldn't find the telling ball that would unlock the Parish back four.
Moses Steede had the closest chance in the match for Cougars in the second half but his effort sliced agonisingly inches away from the far post, and with that chance went Cougars chance of getting anything out of the match.
