Hair delighted by Dill's growth as an umpire

Darrell Hair

Top local umpire Roger Dill received a ringing endorsement from Australian counterpart Darrell Hair in Toronto this week.

The two men are presently officiating in the Scotiabank Series Cup involving Bermuda, Canada and the West Indies at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City.

Hair said he first met Dill in Toronto seven years ago and since then has been impressed by the Bermudian's steady ascent through the ranks.

"I'd like to say that I know a good umpire when I see one and Roger hasn't let me down.

"I first met Roger in 2001 in Toronto and I have been impressed by the way he works as an umpire and it's been interesting to watch his progress in that time," Hair told The Royal Gazette.

"Roger has performed admirably enough to be selected on the first (ICC) Associate International Panel and I think he has done himself proud.

"It's pleasing for me to see him still umpiring on an international level."

Former Western Stars spinner Dill returned the compliment.

"I have felt very comfortable working with Darrell for the past seven years.

"He has been like a mentor to me and has always offered me encouragement," he said. "He is someone I admire and has always been a pleasure to work alongside."

Dill and Hair will be in action again today when Canada take on the West Indies in what will be a dress rehearsal of Sunday's final of the Scotiabank Series Cup.
