Hill red card thwarts comeback

The 75th minute sending-off of striker Kenny Hill in the midst of Boulevard's fightback served to knock the Blazers off their stride as Town notched an insurance goal moments later to seal this Friendship Trophy victory at Devonshire Rec. field last night.

Boulevard were controlling the tempo of the game after coming back to 2-1 with Hill's fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute. But they were dealt a severe blow just six minutes later when Hill was sent off for a second bookable offence, having been booked in the first half.

Despite playing some good soccer in the first 40 minutes, when they matched their opponents and looked the more likely to score first, Boulevard ended the half two goals down as Town took a psychological edge into the second half after scoring two goals in the last five minutes.

The deadlock was broken when college student Devarr Boyles scored from 25 yards with a shot that caught young goalkeeper Kimandae Walker off his line as the ball went in just under the bar.

Walker can be blamed for the second goal, as well, 45 seconds into injury time when Dennis Robinson got on the end of a Walter Musson cross from the left and squeezed the ball past the 'keeper at the far post.

Referee Peter Sousa booked four players in a busy first half -- Neil Robinson of Boulevard and Town's Gladwin Johnson following a tussle and then Hill for a foul on Wayne Campbell midway through the half. Town captain Wylie Rudo had his name taken in the 44th minute for a foul on Dwight Warren from behind.

Both teams made substitutions at the start of the second half, George Dyer coming on for Boyles who pulled a hamstring in the early minutes of the match and Mitchell Steede for Walker in goal.

Town almost added a third goal in the 52nd minute when a poor goal kick by Steede went straight to Dennis Robinson who laid a perfect ball into the path of Musson who shot wide of the far post.

Two minutes later Warren wasted a perfect chance for Boulevard from inside the box as Town escaped with their two-goal lead still intact. Boulevard stepped up their raids as the Town defence was put under intense pressure by a side who refused to accept defeat.

Musson missed another good opportunity to settle the issue and two minutes later Boulevard were back in the game with a goal from Hill from close range after a good run down the left flank by Neil Robinson.

Boulevard had their bubble burst in the 75th minute with Hill's ejection for a foul on defender Lloyd Christopher and three minutes later Lionel Cann sealed the win with a shot from the left side of the box into the far post just as Dean Boyles challenged.

However, Cann's joy was somewhat tempered as he was booked for ungentlemanly conduct for removing his jersey in celebration.
