Bermuda Hogges assistant coach Jack Castle believes they are at their best when they adopt an attacking mindset and take the game to their rivals, writes Stephen Wright.

Hogges finally returned to winning ways against Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on Saturday night, courtesy of a second-half strike from winger Damon Ming.

And Castle, who took charge of the team along with president Shaun Goater in the absence of coach Kyle Lightbourne, reckons attack could be the best form of defence for Hogges as they look to drag themselves from the foot of the league table.

"Me and Shaun Goater had a game plan and changed things around from an attacking perspective and the players responded to what we were asking of them," said Castle.

"It was important we improved upon are recent poor results and give ourselves a lift. I honestly don't think we're that far away from achieving what we want in this league when we keep our concentration."

Castle and Goater made a number of changes from the team that lost 2-1 to Riverhounds on Thursday night, promoting Tokia Russell, Seion Darrell, Lloyd Holder, Jason Williams and Lloyd Holder to the starting line-up.

And Castle believes the extra experience and leadership qualities of PHC utility-man Russell especially helped to calm Hogges' shattered nerves.

"Tokia is a natural leader and has plenty of experience as he's been around for a while. He showed what he is capable of and played an important part in the win."

Castle is now urging Hogges to overcome their travel sickness and claim their first away points of the campaign when they take on high-flying Richmond Kickers on Saturday. "For me the next challenge is try and win our first away game of the season," he said.

"We've got three away games on the run now and it's important we get something out them. Hopefully we get a few good training sessions in before we head out to the US."
