Hogges turn the corner with second road victory
Northern Virginia Royals 1 Bermuda Hogges 2
Bermuda Hogges rounded off their best ever away trip with a convincing victory over Northern Virginia Royals last night.
First-half goals from Troy Tucker and Darius Cox gave the Hogges their second win in three matches to lift Scott Morton's men to seventh in the league table – just three points off fourth place.
Played in scorching conditions, the Hogges made the perfect start galloping to an early two-goal lead before the hosts pulled one back after the break.
Coach Morton said claiming six points from a possible nine had far exceeded expectations and praised his players for a "real team performance".
"I don't know what the Hogges' away history is like but we're absolutely delighted with two victories from this trip," said Morton, whose side beat Hampton Road Piranhas last Friday.
"It's been a tough few days and the conditions have been extremely hot and humid.
"We haven't taken the lead too many times this season and it was nice to get that cushion. I think Darius' free-kick was from about 40 yards."
The Hogges were without Marquel Waldron last night after the defender suffered dehydration during their defeat against Reading United on Sunday. Waldron was taken to hospital after the game as a precaution and will require around two weeks' rest before he is ready to return to action.
