Super-sub Lloyd Holder struck deep into injury time to fire PHC Zebras into the next round of the Friendship Trophy.

Holder scored with virtually the last kick of the game as his side limped past Devonshire Cougars at Lords yesterday.

The PHC striker, on as a second-half substitute, was inside the Cougars penalty area with his back to goal when his audacious over-the-shoulder flick looped over the head of Cougars goalkeeper Ricardo Brangman.

Brangman should have done better with his attempt to get to a shot that somehow squeezed between his outstretched hand and the crossbar, but the result was little more than PHC deserved.

Kyle Lighbourne's side dominated for the majority of the game against a toothless Cougars side who displayed all the attacking prowess and physical strength of a small kitten.

Too often Cougars were hustled off the ball by their opponents and when they did create some space, they seemed unsure how best to use it, allowing the PHC defence to easily snuff out any possible threat.

PHC should have had the game wrapped up by half-time such was their dominance, but as has often been the case this season, they failed to apply the final touch. Jeff Franklin blazed over from eight yards out and missed another when his weak shot was easily saved by Brangman, while Quinton Burgess wasted a host of chances, including firing over from close range when he created space for himself down the right.

The second half was much the same with PHC creating, and wasting, numerous chances and as the game wore on, so Lighbourne's frustration increased. Extra time seemingly beckoned, but then up popped Holder to put last year's beaten finalists into the next round.

"I thought we bossed the game," said Lightbourne. "But we didn't take our chances and that's been a problem of ours all season. There's been nothing wrong with our overall play, it's just been having the confidence to go on and put the ball in the back of the net.

"Hopefully this will kick-start us for the second half of the season."
