Hornets injury woe as Ming ruled out
Premier Division title contenders Dandy Town have been rocked by the news that flying winger Damon Ming could be ruled out for most of the remaining season with a foot injury.
Ming picked up the injury during Hornets' 2-1 win over against Hamilton Parish at St. John's Field earlier this month – and could be on the sidelines for up to six weeks.
The bone broken in Ming's foot is a metatarsal, the same injury that almost kept England's Wayne Rooney out of the 2006 World Cup.
But Ming remains confident he will still play a part in Hornets' title push as well Bermuda Hogges' USL-D2 campaign which starts in April.
"I broke a bone in my foot midway through the first half of the Hamilton Parish match last week, and when I went to the doctor he said it was my metatarsal bone," said Ming.
"I came off midway through the first half because it was hurting a lot.
"The doctor said three to four weeks I will be out, so that means four to six weeks before I can suit back up."
English Premier League players Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ashley Cole, Ledley King, David Nugent and Michael Owen have been struck with the dreaded metatarsal curse in recent years.
The damage and recovery time depends on the extent of the injury and which of the five metatarsals is affected.
Hornets suffered a minor setback on Sunday in their title quest after being held by PHC to a goalless draw at home, thus relinquishing their lead at the top of the table to Devonshire Cougars.
To add to their misery, attacking midfielder Antwan Russell was substituted at half time with a suspected knee injury as injuries mount up at the St.John's Field club.
However, Ming reckons the harmony amongst players both on and off the field will ensure Hornets will not miss a beat, regardless of who is injured.
"Town will be alright though, we have a lot of team unity right now, and they didn't lose yesterday so it isn't as bad as it looks right now," he said.
"I will be ready for the rest of the season when I return, as well as the Bermuda Hogges season.
"They haven't said who is on the roster just yet, but if I am chosen I will be ready for that.
"I have until the end of April to get ready for that scenario.
"By the end of the month I will be able to do a little bit, and if we get past North Village in the FA Cup, I could be back for the games remaining in the season.
"The swelling has gone down, so I am just staying off it so it can heal quicker."
n It is rumoured former professional player Meshach Wade has suffered career threatening injuries after being involved in a road accident.
The former Hornets coach, who recently stepped down from his post to be replaced by Scott Morton, is believed to have broken his hip and dislocated a knee.
Wade, who played for Hereford Town in England, was part of former coach Kenny Thompson's Bermuda's team that beat Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean in a World Cup qualifier last summer.
