Dandy Town winger Damon Ming was a relieved man after his team's suspenseful win over Devonshire Colts at St. John's Field thanks to goals from Heys Wolffe and Nahki Wells.

Town continued their climb up the league table having taken ten points from their last four league games and are now in the thick off the Premier Division title race.

The win, however, was not comfortable as they almost blew their two-goal lead after appearing to be in complete control of proceedings.

"We made it a harder match than it really was," said Ming. "We played very good in the first half and should have been up about four goals before the interval, but we got the win and look forward to our next match.

"We took our foot off the gas and they almost came back into it, but that's how it goes.

"The second half we started to lay back because we dominated so much and that allowed them to get back into the match."

It took until the 36 minutes to break the deadlock courtesy of a Wolffe volley, a trademark finish by the striker from 12 yards.

Five minutes later it was Wells who was left unattended at the back post, and he made no mistake with his header from a Chris Anderson cross.

Colts seemed out of sorts for long spells in the first half, but whatever coach Keishon Smith said in the changing room at the half struck a chord as they came out a totally different outfit.

Striker Mikre Pace should have done better with a long ball over the top that he scuffed wide and he should have had his second of the game moments later but blazed his effort high and wide with the goal at his mercy.

Their goal did come via a penalty after Chris Anderson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area after 77 minutes.

Substitute Kyle Jones stepped up and hammered his spot kick past Mikkail Crockwell to set up a tense finale.

As they searched for the all important equaliser, they were almost caught out at the back with Town skipper Raymond Beach coming close to making the game safe after rounding Jason Wade in the Colts goal, but he saw his effort hit the side netting.

Pace was again in the thick of things for Colts, but it wasn't to be the striker's day as he sailed another effort high over Crockwell's crossbar, all but ending his team's chances of getting something out of the match.

The win leaves Hornets only four points behind new leaders PHC with both sides set to square off in the last league fixture before the Christmas break next weekend.

For Colts, they can take positives out of their performance as they look to consolidate themselves in the middle of the table.

"We are trying to stay focused, we are back in the thick of things and things are looking up," Ming continued.

"If we can get maximum points from our remaining game that will have us right back in the mix and that is what we are looking to do."
