Hubbard hailed at BBA annual meeting

night's Annual General Meeting of Bermuda Bicycle Association following his decision to retire as a professional sportsman.

President of the BBA Martin Bolton reminded members of Hubbard's "tremendous achievements'' and the "respect and credibility'' he had brought to the sport on the Island.

Bolton went on to report on the association's busiest year with racing now almost a year-round sport, following the introduction of mountain biking.

He praised the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and event organisers and also the performances of the riders -- particularly those who have added to the growing respect for Bermudians racing overseas, such as Kris Hedges, Geri Mewett, MacInnis Looby, Tyler Butterfield, Melanie Claude and Julie Hawley. The meeting also saw the membership give their unanimous support to the body's executive committee -- voting them back into office for another 12 months.

President Bolton, Vice-President Graham Smith, Treasurer Richard Mason, Secretary Danielle Bezant, Road Captain Jason Krupp and Time Trial Organiser Jennifer Hedges all stood down from their posts, only to take up their seats again minutes later when no challengers were forthcoming.

Kevin Topple retained his position as Newsletter Editor, Vance Stevens stays on as Bermuda Olympic Association representative and Greg Hopkins keeps his post of Media Relations officer. Jeff Payne was appointed alternate BOA representative.

The next event in the cycling calendar takes place on Sunday when a mountain bike skills clinic will be held at Admiralty Park.
