'I can offer so much more' says sub Ming

Damon Ming: Hoping he'll be given a starting role in the Hogges' upcoming games.

Frustrated winger Damon Ming is desperate to shed his 'super-sub' tag and prove to Bermuda Hogges coach Kyle Lightbourne that he's wasted sitting on the sidelines.

Ming has been used exclusively as a substitute so far this season but his recent match-changing cameo displays suggest he's capable of being far more than just a bit-part player.

The 30-year-old accepts he will have to be patient while he waits for his opportunity, but believes he's done enough to cement a starting berth and is unhappy at being restrained on the bench.

"It's been frustrating for me this season as I've been on the bench but I know I have to bide my time," Ming said.

"Every time I've come off the bench I've changed the game and I've kept on asking the coaches the right questions.

"I've haven't sat down one-on-one with Kyle or Jack (Castle) to discuss my situation as I understand it's a team game and we've been doing very well. But I feel that I can have the same impact from the start as I have done as a substitute."

Ming reckons he's back to his waspish best after fully recovering from a foot injury he picked up while playing for Dandy Town at the end of last season and insists he can adapt to Lightbourne's preferred 5-3-2 formation.

Hogges travel to the US tomorrow ahead of their matches against Wilmington Hammerheads and Charlotte Eagles with Ming eager to help his team build on their encouraging start to the campaign.

"I'd say I'm pretty much back at full stride now after my injury and I'm pleased with the way I'm playing," he said. "I'm believe I can play in any formation for the Hogges and I'm confident that we can pick up some points from our away trip.

"Everyone is playing for each other and we're no longer a team of individuals. If we can win one of our away matches this weekend it will be great but I see no reason why we shouldn't be thinking about taking maximum points."

Meanwhile, former Hogges player John Barry Nusum's injury hell is showing no signs of abating with the big striker facing a lengthy spell out of action.

Nusum has been besieged with injuries since joining Crystal Palace Baltimore and picked up a knee injury against Richmond Kickers last month.

He said: "I'm going to have an MRI scan next week to see the full extent of my injury. It's a serious enough injury for me to be seeing the doctors. It's been a very frustrating season for me so far and I need to get back to full fitness."

Hogges play Hammerheads at Legion Sports Complex at 8 p.m. (Bermuda time) on Friday and Eagles at Charlotte Christian Restart Field at 9 p.m. (Bermuda time) on Saturday.
