Impressive Crew grabs top ten spot in Germany

Paula Lewin-Crew managed a highly creditable top ten finish at the Kiel Week Regatta in Germany yesterday after bowing out in the quarter-finals.

The top women's match racing sailor endured a mixed bag of results sailing in the Olympic Class Elliot 6 Metre in her bid to advance to the last four up against some world-class opposition.

Crew won just two of seven matches in the quarter-finals before losing to Germany's Silke Hahlbrock in a consolation match for seventh position overall.

Hahlbrock is currently ranked among the top six women's match racing skippers in the world while France's Julie Bossard, who also defeated Crew in yesterday's racing, is ranked third.

Sailing with the former Yingling skipper in Germany this week was her sister Peta White, and United States collegiate sailor Katrina Williams joined her as crew.

It was the first time the Bermudian trio have sailed together as a team and also their first experince of sailing in the Elliott 6 Metre that will be used at the 2012 Olympic Games in England.

Advancing through to the semi-finals were Australian pair Katie Spithill and Nicky Souter, the Netherlands' Renee Groeneveld and France's Bossard.
