Islanders looking to widen gap at the top

League play resumes in the First Division this week with three matches scheduled tonight and two for tomorrow night.

Division leaders St. David's will look to widen the gap at the top when they play X'Roads at Devonshire Rec. at 7 p.m. this evening.

The Islanders have a one point advantage but have played one more game than St. George's Colts and two more than Somerset Eagles.

Anything less than three points could see them slip down the standings with Colts also in action tonight.

In the nightcap at the same venue, Wolves will look to build on their respectable draw in their last outing when they face Young Men's Social Club at 9 p.m.

At BAA, the Wanderers host First Division Dudley Eve champions St. George's at 8 p.m.

The same two sides met in the first round of the Shield Competition on Sunday with Colts emerging with a 3-1 victory.

Tomorrow night, Paget Lions play Prospect United in a game kicking off at 7 p.m. at Somerset Cricket Club.

A Somerset derby will follow when Trojans square off against Eagles at 9 p.m.

The sides met recently in the Dudley Eve with Trojans wnning 1-0, courtesy of a strike from Adrian Burrows.

Eagles have two games in hand, only four points behind the leaders, and will be well aware they could take over the top spot with consistent performances in their upcoming matches.

With a slip-up by both of their eastern rivals, Eagles might only be a single point back going into the weekend's action.
