Italians are back to defend their title

The second annual Red Bull Bermuda International Beach Tennis Tournament is set to kick off this weekend at Horseshoe Bay with reigning world champions Alex Minogozzi and Matteo Merighella of Italy looking to repeat their triumph from last year.

Organised by locals Tony Brannon and Mark Cordeiro, the tournament starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the professionals set to take to the beach for bragging rights, while the amateurs will test their game on Sunday.

Also taking part in tomorrow's professional tournament will be fellow Italians and former world champs Emanuele Bianchedi and Maurizio Di Cori, as well as Bertrand Coulet and Stephanie Retali from the French Reunion Islands.

The event continues on Sunday when kids of all ages will be put through their paces in the morning at 9.00 before the amateurs take to the courts.

The order of play on Sunday will begin with Men's and Ladies' singles followed by mixed doubles.

The event will also be live via an internet broadcast courtesy of Bermuda Sports Network (BSN) on the events website, www.beachtennis .com.
