It's so painful to watch West Ham right now

It is a bit depressing and frustrating being a West Ham supporter right now. After losing to Arsenal last weekend – which in all honesty I did expect – and then losing to Wolves at home this week – which I didn't expect – we are in serious trouble of being relegated. In fact, some of the West Ham fans were so upset this week in the 3-1 loss to Wolves that they took their anger out on some of the players.

I think the fans had a right to be upset. It wasn't so much about losing but rather about the effort that was put in. West Ham have always prided themselves of playing football the right way but when you are in this position you have to try and win any way you can. If that means winning ugly then so be it. I would rather win ugly than lose playing pretty football.

I don't think Wolves are a better team than West Ham – I don't think they have better players than us. But they came to Upton Park and rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. We didn't. And that was the difference. We have to stop conceding stupid goals early on because then you are always on the back foot.

This weekend we host Stoke and I know they will put the effort in – that is what Stoke are all about and that is why they have done well these past two seasons in the Premier League.

I am also upset by the fact that we have had to sell good players over the past year or two. That is coming back to haunt us now. A lot of people may want to blame the manager, Zola, but he may put a good plan in place but the players have to carry that plan out. I just wish we had someone like him on the park who could provide that bit of magic.

Right now Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley are below us. Portsmouth will go down and Hull have played one game less than us. I suppose the only good thing is that West Ham have a better goal difference and it could come down to that at the end of the season. I just want us to survive and then we can think about tomorrow. But if we are going to survive we are going to have to put in a workman-like performance.

Chelsea had a bit of a setback last weekend when they only managed a draw against Blackburn after Manchester United beat Liverpool which must have been sweet revenge for United supporters.

But Chelsea got back on track, beating Portsmouth 5-0 mid-week. And they host Aston Villa at home this weekend and I tip the Blues for the three points. United go to Bolton in a game they should win and Arsenal go to Birmingham and I believe they will come away with the spoils there, so like bottom of the table this could go down to the wire.

In fact, it is an exciting season for most countries in Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid look like they are going to battle right down to the last game and in Italy Inter Milan along with Roma and AC Milan are ever so close even though AC Milan let is slip last weekend.

But in midweek Inter, AC Milan and Roma all won and Inter have a tough match this weekend when they play Roma. Jose Mourinho will be hoping for all three points and if they do get that victory the pressure will ease up a bit as they will go seven points clear with about seven matches remaining. But if Claudio Ranieri's side win they come within a point of Inter.

I like what Ranieri has done with Roma this season. He has got them playing very well and he has also not relied upon Totti to carry the team. Totti has been out injured for a while and other players have stepped up.

It would be great if all three leagues went down to the last games of the season especially with the World Cup right around the corner.

Next week is the Champions League as if you don't have enough excitement! It is all getting down to the nitty gritty now and I want to see how Lionel Messi performs against Arsenal. He had his third hat-trick of the season last weekend – his second within seven days. Words can't describe him.
