Jamaican Ambassadors set for two game tour
A watered down Jamaican Ambassadors team arrived in Bermuda earlier this week for their annual football pilgrimage.
Made up of former Jamaican Olympians and national team footballers, for the last six years the Ambassadors have forged close ties with Bermuda.
Past visits have seen the Jamaicans lecture youngsters and honour former stars such as Clyde Best, who previously played for English side West Ham United.
Tonight (7p.m.) will see the visitors kick off a brief two-match tour of the Island against a Cyril (Dago) Steede XI at Devonshire Recreation Club.
The Ambassadors will then close out their whirlwind tour on Saturday at Somerset Cricket Club where they will clash with Commercial outfit Somerset Extros. On their previous tour of the Island the Jamaicans edged past commercial side North Village 2-1, drew 2-2 with a Steede XI before losing 3-0 to Extros.
Debuting for the Jamaicans, who are missing several players that toured the Island last year, is former Jamaica national team defender Jimmy Lawson.
"We are without quite a few players this year but still intend to make a good showing," said Ambassadors goalkeeper Gordon Anglin. "We are just going to have to work a little harder."
Anglin formerly played for local commercial side, PHC Raiders, and alongside Lawson in Canada where he now resides.
"We are very much looking forward to the two games and also enjoying the Island," he added. "For me, it's always somewhat of a home coming."
