Joint winners Donald and Horowitz resume battle
Mike Donald and Joe Horowitz will return to the scene of their dramatic Goslings Invitational tie next week when the annual golf event takes place at Belmont Hills.
The two professionals became the first joint winners of the Goslings in a thrilling conculsion to last year's event, which saw darkness finally separate two golfers who battled each other to a standstill during a final round that lasted nearly seven hours.
In the end the pair decided to call it a tie, with former PGA professional Donald graciously allowing Horowitz to keep the trophy, rather than trying to figure out a way of sharing it during the course of the year.
Next week 40 professionals will compete for the $50,000 prize money, with the likes of Tim Conley, who has won the tournament more times than anyone else and a host of other local events, and European Senior Tour player Delroy Cambridge among the 20 overseas professionals coming for the tournament.
The winner will collect $9,000 with prizemoney for the top 20, and there is also a sidepot of $15,000 for senior professionals, aged 55 and over, with a first place cheque of $3,000.
As well as the overseas professionals, there will be a strong showing from Bermuda's professionals with the likes of Dwayne Pearman, a former champion, Brian Morris, Scott Roy, Andrew Trott, Paul Adams and Andrew Bissell all taking part.
Overall 90 players will compete in the event, with local amateur Daniel Augustus favourite to defend his title, although Camiko Smith and some of the overseas low handicappers may have something to say about that.
As with last year, the event will begin with the Commonwealth versus the World championships on Sunday, before the main 72-hole event begins on Monday.
The tournament runs throughout the week.
