Jones wins Tour event

Nick Jones backed up his debut performance as a professional golfer last week with victory in his second tour event.

Carding a four-under 68, the young Bermudian won the Moonlight Tour event at the Red Tail Golf Club in Florida.

Jones birdied the first hole and eagled the second to take a lead he would never relinquish.

John Rattan placed second, two shots back of Jones.

Jones said it was the best round of golf he'd played

"It felt great to be out there and get the job done, I started really well and that put me in a position to win.

"I birdied and eagled the first two holes so that set me up for a good day, and overall it felt really good.

"On Tuesday (his first Tour event) my start let me down and getting a good start takes a lot of pressure off of you as the round goes on because you aren't fighting back to get something out of nothing.

"I started under par and from there it was easier to play my game knowing I was in a good position.

"I hit about 15 out of 18 greens, so I simply had to stay consistent."

The win pushes Jones towards playing in Level II events, which are two-day tournaments against better opposition and with more money at stake.

"The win sets me up for a Level II event, which is a two-day event and will obviously be a harder tournament with better players and a bigger purse.

"I believe there is a tournament in mid-October, so I will look to improve on my short game in preparation for that."
