Junior sailing team off to Europe
Bermuda will be represented at this month's Kiel Week Regatta in Germany and next month's Youth World Championships in Denmark by five of the Island's most promising young sailors.
Joshua Greenslade, Blake Burgess, Haley Powell and Libby Brewin will carry the Island's flag in Europe in the 29er class while William Hutchings will compete in the Lasers.
All five sailors are graduates of the Island's highly successful Optimist class programme and have already represented Bermuda at this level in the past.
"Bermuda's young sailors will gain valuable experience at this event as they evolve and develop along an Olympic path," commented coach Paul Doughty, who will accompany the Island's young representatives across the Atlantic.
The 29er team of Greenslade and Burgess will sail in this month's Kiel Week in Germany before joining the rest of their team-mates in Denmark for next month's Youth Worlds.
Following the regatta they will remain in Kiel for two weeks to train with the top sailing countries of their class, which includes Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Canada.
Prior to their departure, Greenslade and Burgess received sponsorship packages provided by local companies Botelhowood Architects, Crisson Construction, Ray Clan Ltd., Fast Forward Freight and P&M Electrical Ltd.
Kiel Week is the largest regatta in the world with over 8,000 sailors in a number of classes.
Powell and Brewin will look to improve upon their performances at the Youth Worlds last year, while the lone Laser competitor, Hutching, will also be aiming to make his mark.
