Khano Smith on draft list
Khano Smith will be one of at least 100 players looking to get drafted by the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps after he was released by the New England Revolution recently.
Smith will join players from other clubs around the league who were unprotected by their clubs and can now be signed by the two new clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The list of unprotected players available in the draft was released by MLS on Monday afternoon. Among the various big names are San Jose's Geovanni, Sporting KC's Jimmy Conrad, Chicago attacker Nery Castillo and veteran Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad.
Smith had a second spell at the Revolution this season but rarely made an impact.
The former Dandy Town and national team player was signed by Seattle after leaving New England a couple of seasons ago but never played a game before leaving to join the New York Bulls.
However, after only a handful of games for the Bulls he returned to the Revolution.
This will be Smith's second time unprotected by the Revolution.
Teams were allowed to protect 11 players, with Generation adidas and so-called home-grown players receiving automatic protection.
The Expansion Draft takes place at 3 p.m. Bermuda time today.
