King qualifies for NCAA meet

Arantxa King: Second at the Cherry and Silver International meet in New Mexico

Long jumper Arantxa King finished second at The Cherry and Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the weekend.

The Stanford university athlete jumped 6.28 metres which is the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) provisional qualifying mark.

Her jump also surpassed the Commonwealth Games standard of 6.15 metres.

King, a former world youth champion, has already qualified for the Games along with middle distance runner Aaron Evans, sprinter Tre Houston and long jumper Tyrone Smith.

All four athletes, along with heptathlete Shianne Smith and 800 metres runner Chayce Smith have also qualified for this summer's CAC Games.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Delhi, India, from October 3 -14. The CAC Games will he held in Puerto Rico from July 17 until August 1.
