Kings struggle past winless Arsenal
Defending Island Soccer League (ISL) champions the Kings made hard work of a seemingly routine game against the Arsenal before holding on for a 5-3 victory at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
Leading 3-0, courtesy of a ruthless Aquino Grant hat-trick, the Kings looked to be in cruise control but took their foot off the pedal, letting Arsenal back into Monday's match.
Arsenal, who are still yet to win this season, found their way back in the fourth quarter with Reggie Baker and Reggie Lowe scoring.
With five minutes remaining striker Cecoy Robinson equalised to give his side a chance of claiming their first points of the season.
However, the celebrations were short lived as a foul and a blue card allowed Chris Anderson to put the Kings ahead 4-3. A Chris Furbert strike then put the game out of the reach.
"We were a bit complacent at times throughout the match but if we win our remaining games the top spot can still be ours," said the Kings coach Marvin Balboda
Earlier in the night, the Royal saw off the Union 6-2 with goals from Jemeiko Jennings (2), Sergio Goater, Jamie Smith, Adrian Burrows and Aldophus Lambert.
Rohaan Simons and Antoine Brangman scored the goals for the Union.
On Tuesday night, the Apex defeated the Knights 6-5, thanks to a brace from Vernon Tankard.
Vincent Minors gave the Knights the lead early in the first quarter, before Tankard equalised for the Apex. Skipper Kori Goddard made it 2-1 to Apex when he scored from a shoot-out.
Jamal Simmons added another for Apex who seemed to be running away with the match. But midway through the second quarter, Jahkee Smith pulled a goal back for the Knights to make it 3-2. Tankard then scored again at the back post to make it 4-2.
In the third quarter Wolde Place scored to put the Apex ahead 5-2, before Minors pulled one back for the Knights.
Kaiwon Dill scored for Apex to make it 6-3 and put the writing on the wall, although the Knights gave them a late scare with Smith and Kaiya Darrell adding two more.
Antoine (All Hustle) Russell added to his league leading goal tally in the final match of the week as he guided the Storm to a 6-5 victory over hat-trick man Jason Davis and the Titans.
Russell headed the Storm into the lead, but Jason Davis pulled the Titans level before Otis Minors and Russell put the Storm back ahead.
A run the length of the field by Titans goalkeeper Raymond Glasford then set up Mark Steede to snatch a goal back for the Titans.
In the third quarter, Davis scored again for the Titans to level the match at 3-3. But the dependable Otis Minors hit the target from distance to put the Storm back ahead.
Not to be outdone by the Storm's goalscoring machines, Davis equalised again to claim his hat-trick.
Sean Simmons scored for the Storm to make the score 5 -4, followed by Kevin Lambe, who ultimately put the nail in the Titans' coffin.
Takeyhi Walker did manage to pull a goal back for the Titans before the final whistle.
