Knights survive scare against Apex
Knights striker Vincent Minors Jr. has called upon his team-mates to continue their march towards the Island Soccer League (ISL) title after surviving a scare against Apex.
The 2007 champions were made to sweat out their 6-5 win over Apex at the National Sports Centre yesterday, although Minors reckons they made it hard on themselves.
The win takes the side to three wins out of three, which includes a notable win over defending champions Storm.
"We made the game harder than it was supposed to be," said Minors.
"With all games, the keys are putting away your chances and defending well and early on we didn't do these things. Once we put in the work we were ok."
Minors also backs his coach"s thought of a week ago regarding the importance of team unity and having everyone on the same page.
And on the same page they are, with the side firing on all cylinders and are early favourites to lift the title in one month's time.
Minors said the Knights' goal this year was to win back the trophy they relinquished with a whimper last year.
"Team unity is essential in this league and no team will go far without it," he said. "After the game we are all going out together to have a bite to eat and share in the camaraderie we have amongst ourselves. It all helps in the long run.
"It doesn't matter if we are undefeated, we are all here for a ring. That's the bottom line.
"We won the first title, last year we didn't make the play-offs, so this year we want to be back in contention.
"Our record right now means we are close to the play-offs and that's a good thing so early in the season, but other than that it means nothing.
"We have a ring, but like Kobe Bryant said a few weeks back, it feels good to be so close to something but until you get it, it isn't over."
In the day's other matches, a brace from Adrian Burrows was the difference in the Royal's 7-6 victory over the Union.
Helping out in the goals department were Robert Wilson, Shannon Burgess, Jelani Butterfield, Adolphus Lambert and Jemeiko Jennings.
Dennis Russell scored twice for the Union, while Jahnai Raynor, Kamen Tucker, Antoine Brangman and Lamaul Crofton scored once.
Arsenal beat the Kings 5-4 with goals from Reggie Lowe, who notched a brace, while Ian Coke, Ijahmon Mallory and Cecoy Robinson.
The Kings got two goals from Ricky Saltus and single strikes from Jahnai Bean and Michael Parsons.
The Angelo Simmons and Raymond Beach show kicked off officially after the latter suited up with both notching braces as the Storm rebounded from Thursday night's loss to the Knights with a 10-6 win over the Titans.
