Lambe confident as PHC face do or die clash

PHC striker Kevin Lambe is quietly confident that his side can get the required result in their final Dudley Eve clash with Dandy Town at Somerset Cricket Club tonight to advance to the next round.

Having lost their opening Group 'A' match against Boulevard 3-2, and with Dandy Town beating Boulevard 3-0 in their opening encounter, PHC must win to book their place in the semi-finals.

Knowing what must be done, Lambe believes his side have what it takes to get the job done.

"We are ready to go," said Lambe. "We have a few games under our belt in getting the system down and should be genuine title contenders.

"Getting into the next round of the competition is important for a few reasons such as giving the players who are out for whatever reason a game or two before the league campaign and so forth.

"Also, it is the first trophy of the season and we pride ourselves on our ability to step up in cup competitions.

"We aren't suffering from any fatigue or injuries, we are ready for the game and to get the result.

With previous clashes between the two sides being tightly contested, Lambe admitted that there wouldn't be much between the two sides.

"It will be a good game knowing how we both play, it will be fast paced from the outset.

"I don't think there will be too much of a difference between the two sides. It is a rivalry and will be intense throughout."

In the opening game of the night, Devonshire Cougars will lock horns with North Village in Group 'B'.

Coming off a shocking loss at home to St. George's last Friday night, Cougars will be looking to rebound in what has been a hectic start to their campaign.

The match will be their fourth in ten days, and a loss to their urban rivals will see them all but out of the competition having already played Somerset Eagles, a game that ended 1-1.

As for Village, they open their campaign tonight as the defending champions and will be looking to get off on a high note.

Like their opponents tonight, Rams suffered a home loss to league champions Town 2-1 and will be looking to get back to their winning ways.

Village's showdown with Cougars kicks off at 7 p.m., with Town and PHC set to start at 9 p.m.
