Lightbourn takes top spot in Tenpin Classic
Top Bermuda bowler Dean Lightbourn collected $4,000 after beating Lavinc Samuels in the final of the Bermuda Open Tenpin Classic at Warwick Lanes on the weekend.
The Classic replaced the Professional Bowlers Tournament that ran for 14 years.
Samuels won $2,000 with third-placed Rickai Binns taking home $1,800.
The remaining prize-winners were David Maycock ($1,750), Jermaine DeSilva ($1,700), Lamar Richardson ($1,400), Damien Matthews ($1,300), Mike McCallum ($1,200), Carl Reid ($1,100), Vernon Daniels ($1,050), Partrice Tucker ($1,000), Stephen Paul ($950) and senior Vernon Daniels won $500.
In the final match on Sunday Lightbourn bowled a 231 to Samuels' 170.
On Saturday the bowlers competed in five game blocks (10 games) and on Sunday the top 12 qualifiers bowled 12 games in the match-game format to determine the top five who then bowled for the championship in a TV-style stepladder format.
DeSilva was beaten by Maycock 175 to 146. Maycock then took on third-placed Binns who won 228 to 189.
Binns played eventual winner Lightbourn who won 220 to 201 before going on to beat Samuels in the final.
The top 12 qualifiers to get into Sunday's play were: Samuels (2,731), Lightbourn (2,549), Binns (2,534), Maycock (2,456), DeSilva (2,443), Richardson (2,401), Matthews (2,344), McCallum (2,320), Reid (2,304), Daniels (2,285), Tucker (2,226) and Paul (2,211).
