Like father, like son . . .

The son of newly appointed Port Royal Golf Course head professional, Dwayne Pearman, has won the 15-18 age group of the recently concluded Ross (Blackie) Talbot Summer Golf Tour.

Dwayne Pearman Jr. amassed 770 points followed by John Seymour on 650 and Scott Gilbertson on 645.

Pearman Sr. commented after his appointment that his major interest in his spare time was teaching and watching his son, and the lessons appear to be paying off.

His son, along with John Seymour, Scott Gilbertson and Matthew Smith, have now been selected to go on a trip to play in a tournament in Florida during the school half-term holiday in November.

Points were awarded each week for the 12 weeks of Tour play with the best eight results counting towards the final total.

The youngsters enjoyed rounds at Mid Ocean Club, Tucker's Point, Belmont Hills and Riddell's Bay, played over nine holes, starting in late afternoon.

In the 12-and-under age group, where the youngest was only eight, Thomas Allkins finished on top with 775 points closely followed by Khari Place on 740 and Walker Campbell third with 650.

In the novices division, who played from the forward tees, the youngest was six-year-old Alshae Landy who topped the standings with 779.

Alshae beat out her seven-year-old sister, Alvinae, who won in the Pepsi Little People tournament in the US earlier in the year. Alvinae finished with 770 points and Ryan Stocek third with 635.

Only two players took part in the 13-14 age group as some of the 13 and 14-year-olds opted to move up to the 15 and over group.

Justin Watts topped the 13-14 division with 770 points and Daniel Nash placed second with 600.

The Tour was organised for the sixth time by long-time pro Eardley Jones in conjunction with Bermuda Junior Golf Association.

At a prize presentation last week, sponsor Clem Talbot praised Jones for his enthusiasm and dedication to junior golfers while Jones in turn thanked all the sponsors – the Ross (Blackie) Talbot charities, Dunkley's Dairy and Axis Capital.
