Manders and Brooks claim title honours

Gavin Manders and Ashley Brooks were both crowned champions at the ninth annual Argus Open finals at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium on Saturday.

Manders overcame Jenson Bascome in straight sets in the Men's A Singles 6-0, 7-5, while Brooks beat Sasha Fisher 7-6 (3) and 6-3 in the Ladies' A Singles.

Bermuda's Davis Cup team, including both Manders and Bascome, will be competing this week in the America's Zone Group IV, which includes Costa Rica, Haiti, and the US Virgin Islands in Honduras.

Gerald Simons, president of the Argus Group, said: "I would like to congratulate the players and express my admiration for their talent and competitive spirit.

"Everyone's participation in this year's tournament is greatly appreciated.

"I hope that Bermuda's tennis enthusiasts enjoyed the tournament and will join us again next year."
