Winger Quadir Maynard put in a master class performance in the opening match of the 2010 Clyde Best Tournament as he single handedly got the Bermuda Reds their 1-0 win over the Bermuda Grey.

Maynard produced a moment of brilliance in the 60th minute skipping across three defenders and squaring a his pass to Dunte Albuoy who finished emphatically from close range.

While the result got the side off to a good start, Reds coach Scott Morton wasn't looking for a win in their opening match, but rather for evidence that his players had listened to the advice given to them in their run up to the tournament.

"With both of the teams playing each other we have certain qualities we are working on, so both sides are working on a few things as a team," said Morton.

"We were happy with the performance, the boys played a competitive match considering the age difference between the two sides.

"We were looking to prepare for ourselves for the matches against the two teams that flew in, we weren't looking at the result per say.

"The boys need to concentrate on what we are asking of them and that's were they would become consistent and build their confidence."

Morton, will pitt his wits against St. Etienne this afternoon, and keen for his players to focus on their consistency and responsibilities within the team.

The Reds boss is keen that his team don't try to win the game as individuals, even though it took a moment of brilliance from Maynard to decide last night's match.

"If they try and go and win the game themselves, it goes away from our game plan," said Morton.

"That leads to certain responsibilities being neglected and if we can concentrate on this then we will be alright.

"We want to come out and compete and believe in their abilities and everything else will take care of itself."

Today's matches at the National Sports Centre will see the two unbeaten sides clash when Bermuda Red take on St. Etienne at 2pm, while Bermuda Grey will go up against West Ham United at 4pm.

Tomorrow's matches will see Bermuda Grey play St. Etienne at 1pm, with Bermuda Red locking horns with West Ham United at 3pm.
