Morton urges side to put on a show
Victory over Boulevard in tomorrow's FA Cup final at the National Sports Centre would a fitting end to what has been a topsy-turvy season for Dudley Eve champions Dandy Town Hornets.
Beaten finalists one year ago, a 2-0 defeat to PHC, the St. John's Field club have had a season that included losing a valuable member of their squad, Machai Campbell, who died in a road accident late last year, along with crucial injuries at key times of the season.
But a win over Blazers would see Scott Morton's men add the most sought after trophy in domestic football to their Dudley Eve crown.
And coach Morton has urged his troops to enjoy the showpiece occasion and stick to their footballing principles.
"Our preparation has been coming along beautiful," said Morton.
"My charges are ready to go, everyone is ready to go and they understand the task at hand and are looking to put on a good performance.
"You have to remember that this is the showcase that everyone wants to be in, the last match of the season and it is important to entertain and put on a good performance in order to get a good result."
One of the blips on the radar this year for Town was losing out on second place in the league to Blazers on the last day of the season who beat them a 1-0 at BAA Field.
Yet Morton reckons that the result won't have any bearing on what happens in the final considering that this time around there is much more on the line then league positions.
And no matter what happens, the Hornets coach is appreciative of his side's dedication throughout the season.
"Our loss to Blazers in the last game of the season won't have any bearing on this match. That was a game in itself and this is a whole new game.
"This is a cup game in the sense of a one shot deal, you either take it or you don't.
"Our guys are ready and focused on the task at hand.
"There won't be just one factor in the game, but a bunch of them.
"Our performance, discipline and being able to psychologically adapt to situations in the match is necessary and key to our success.
"Also, having more then one game plan is vital, we can't put all our eggs in one basket.
"When things don't go our way we will have to be able to make adjustments on the day.
"A loss won't make me think any different of my squad, we have had an excellent season and they have dedicated their time and energy to the team's goals when they could be doing other things. So I am very appreciative of the boys."
