Six league games undefeated and still to concede a goal.

Robin Hood went top of the First Division table last night after an easy win over Ireland Rangers at BAA Field.

The division's new-boys scored three unanswered second-half goals, coming from Keith Beach and a Steven Simons brace to lift them a single point ahead of St.David's, having played one game more.

Manager Paul Scope admitted that Hood's early season form had surpassed his own expectations, but warned his players against becoming complacent.

"It's been a great start to the season and I'm happy as Larry at the moment," said Scope.

"But going top at this stage of the season doesn't really mean anything and St.David's have a game in hand. Confidence is high but we don't want any complacency setting in as that could cost us."

Despite dominating the first period, Hood and Rangers entered the break on level terms with goalkeeper Trenton Tankard making a series of fine saves for the West Enders to deny Scope's side an opener.

Hood started the second half a tad sluggishly, but midfielder Beach gave them the lead they deserved with a left-footed drive from the edge of the box on 48 minutes.

Conceding so early after the break visibly deflated Rangers who then allowed Simons to score twice in the space of three minutes, first with his left foot and then with a header, to put the game out of reach.

Scope believed Hood had played some of their best football of the season and praised coach Andrew Bascome for the work he had been doing on the training ground.

"Andrew has got the players playing some attractive pass and move football and it's starting to become second nature for the boys."

Hood take on Young Men's Social Club on Saturday night at BAA Field, while second place St.David's face off against an unbeaten St.George's on Sunday at Lords.

Wolves 1 YMSC 0

In yesterday's other First Division fixture, also at BAA Field, Wolves overcame YMSC. Wolves scored after eight minutes through ex-North Village winger Vincent Minors.
