O'Dwyer goal rescues Onions' unbeaten record

Dandy Town Roots were seconds away from inflicting the first league defeat of the season on newly-crowned champions MR Onions on Saturday.

But a last gasp header by Eoghan O'Dwyer rescued Onions from defeat. Onions had the best chance to open the scoring when they were awarded a dubious penalty but Nigel Forrester blazed woefully over the bar.

Shortly afterwards O'Dwyer thought he had scored for the visitors, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

At the other end, Roots were looking dangerous, the front men holding the ball up strongly and linking well with their supporting midfielders.

And they too had a guilt-edged chance to score when they struck the bar but the ball was cleared to safety.

Early in the second half Roots scored what was probably their goal of the season.

Roots were knocking the ball around in the Onions half and then Phillip Lawrence laid the ball off just outside the area and Maurice Lowe sent a scorching drive into the side netting from twenty yards.

Onions were determined to draw level but they found the Roots keeper in fine form.

Deep into injury time Onions sent a ball into the area from the right and O'Dwyer was on hand at the back post to squeeze the ball between the post and the outstretched arm of the Roots keeper.

An under-strength Robin Hood side had to come from behind to overcome Prospect/Fire at Police Field.

After an uninspiring first half where neither side crafted any worthwhile chances Prospect took a surprise lead mid-way through the second period.

This proved to be a wake up call for the Hood who replied with two goals from Matthew Watson and Gary Ray, season firsts for both defenders.

In beautiful conditions at Bernard Park BAA scored three goals late in the first half to secure all three points.

Key West had an opportunity to open the scoring but missed a penalty after 25 minutes.

This reprieve woke BAA up and Dave Gibbs opened the scoring after 35 minutes after being played through by Paul Colvin.

Wayne Clapham then made it two with a well struck volley from– 20 yards, and on the stroke of half time, Colvin then got in on the action and made it 3-0 when he scored direct from a corner.

Key West missed another penalty in the second half before scoring a consolation goal with 15 minutes remaining.

North Village beat Lobster Pot –1-0 thanks to a Maceo Dill goal while PHC Raiders collected all three points from no-show Tuff Dogs.
