'Only ourselves to blame' says Dill
Defender Kofi Dill believes North Village were the protagonists of their own downfall after allowing the Premier Division title to slip agonisingly out of their grasp.
Village's weekend win over Somerset Eagles was all in vain with Dill and his team-mates having to settle for second best following Dandy Town's title clinching victory over PHC.
The Rams had looked firm favourites to lift the championship after taking a one point lead at the top of the table when they beat Hornets, with just two matches of the season remaining.
But the Red Army followed up that satisfying win with a damaging draw against Southampton Rangers to hand their cross-town rivals the advantage going into the final stages of the title race.
Dill admits Village have no one to blame but themselves and said Sunday's victory at White Hill Field left him feeling empty.
"We won, but it just didn't feel right. We had it in our hands and let it slip out," said the former Bermuda international.
Despite surrendering the title to Hornets, Dill is adamant there has been plenty of positives to come out of Village's season, especially the emergence of a crop of promising youngsters.
"There has been a real team spirit this season and some good has come out it such as our developing our youngsters," he said. "We've put in a lot of hard work in this season."
Victory over Southampton Rangers in the Friendship Final at the National Sports Centre on Sunday would go some way to exorcising some of their demons, said Dill.
"We're looking to win, it's the last cup competition we're in so we're looking to lift it.
"We've already won the Dudley Eve but that alone is not enough.
"We were in contention for all of the trophies this season so we need to at least win two of them."
