Para athletes face Phoenix challenge

Five Bermuda para-athletes will be heading overseas this month for international competition, writes Stephen Wright.

Paul Hollis (swimming), Sia Castle (archery), Paul Alves (track) and Jessica Lewis (track) – pictured above – will be all be showcasing their skills at the Desert Challenge Games in Phoenix, Arizona from May 21-23.

Equestrian Ashlee Brady-Kelly will also be competing at the WindReach Farm in Ontario between May 28-30.

Tammalita Astwood, WindReach's adaptive sports co-ordinator, said the athletes had been preparing diligently ahead with their respective trainers.

"We're really excited for our athletes and some of them haven't competed overseas before," she said. "The para-athlete movement in Bermuda in really growing.

"The track guys have been working hard with Gerry Swan, Sia's been training with Kevin Martin and Kate Terceira has been coaching Ashlee in the equestrian.

"We'd like to thank all of our sponsors including Validus Re."
