Peniston in trophy pledge after rejoining Dandy Town

Bermuda Hogges midfielder Jared Peniston is hungry for silverware after returning to former club Dandy Town Hornets from North Village.

Capturing Peniston is a statement of intent for the St.John's Field-based side who already possess an embarrassment of midfield riches with the likes of internationals Damon Ming, Lashun Dill and Nahki Wells.

The 26-year-old said his decision to leave Bernard Park was because of "personal reasons" but stressed he enjoyed his single season with Shaun Goater's Village.

"I'm going back to Town for personal reasons, reasons that I really don't want to discuss at this time," said the Bermuda international.

"I do like the style that Village play but it was just a personal decision that I've made to go back to Town.

"We didn't win any trophies but there was harmony within the team and plenty of fight. That's what I liked about my season at Village."

Although last season's FA Cup finalists have captured their ex-defender Tokia Russell from PHC they have lost a number of marquee names such as Ernest and David Signor, Mikkail Crockwell, Shakir Smith and Antwan Russell.

But Peniston remains confident Hornets will once again be in the hunt for honours and is keen to add to the eight trophies he won during his last stint at the club.

"With Tokia and myself going back it should be a good boost for the team," said Peniston, who left Hornets for Wolves two years ago.

"We both have played with some of the more experienced players like Raymond Beach, Heys Wolffe, Damon Ming, Kingsley Mundy and Lashun Dill just to name a few.

"My expectations are like any other player in the league – win trophies and play good football.

"To win trophies, or at least contend for them, we need to put in hard work and play as a team. I gave Town four years before and won eight trophies.

"I believe in the team we have for the season, so it should be a good one his year."

Hornets are currently without a coach for next season after Scott Morton ruled out a return as he wanted to devote his energy on preparing Bermuda Under-23s for their Pan-Am and Olympic qualifiers.

Morton stepped down as Hornets coach after their FA Cup final loss to Boulevard Blazers and told The Royal Gazette earlier this week that he believed working at both the domestic and international level would be a conflict of interest.

Morton plans to spend next season monitoring the progress of his Under-23 squad's Bermuda-based players in Premier and First Division matches as well as identifying those who slipped through the net.

"I'll definitely not be returning as coach of Dandy Town next season," said Morton.

"I don't think a national team coach should also be coaching at a domestic club.

"I want to be able to view games as a neutral as I think subconsciously you always favour your own players when you're working at a club.

"I take my duties as a national team coach very seriously and want to fully focus on my job.

"I don't aim to repeat what's been done before and hope to take this team to a level where they have never previously been."

Antwan Russell's new club Somerset Eagles are full of hope for next season having snatched the coup of the transfer window from Dandy Town.

New team-mate Marcel Dill is excited about the prospect of having the Bermuda Hogges striker line-up with last year's First Division top scorer Darin Dowling.

"I think Antwan would be an asset to any team on the Island so we are very happy that he is with us this season," said goalkeeper/defender Dill.

"He has played well with Dandy Town, Hogges along with the Storm last year in the Island Soccer League (ISL) and is regarded as a quality player.

"Having him alongside Darin Dowling, who was the top scorer in the First Division last season, should provide us with a lot of goals.

"Last year Kenny (Thompson) used a plenty of the younger players and I'm sure he will do much of the same this year.

"Roger Lee and Anthony Hunter are two players that played very well for us last season, but they will both be abroad in school this season on scholarships.

"So having players like Russell, Aquino Grant, Anthony Rocker and Shakir Smith come onboard now is a good timing.

"There are a few other highly rated players that have shown interest in coming to White Hill, but I don't know exactly who has been definitely confirmed yet.

"We would like to finish the season in a respectable position and have a good run in some of the cup competitions."

The first wave of summer transfers unveiled by the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) on Monday saw Devonshire Colts midfielder Phil Anderson exit the club to dedicate his energies to the player/ coach role with First Division new-boys MR Onions.

South African goalkeeper Andrew JJombwe, who played for Boulevard last season, has switched to Somerset, with Trojans looking for cover for veteran Timmy Figureido, who injured his knee in Hogges' first game of the season and has not played since.

Defending champions Devonshire Cougars have yet to engage in any dealings as they wait to appoint a new coach.
