Police 343-8 –Western Stars 267
Police coasted to a 76-run victory over Western Stars on Saturday to move into the final of the Central Counties Cup despite a superb century from Stars' Wayne Campbell in this semi-final at Devonshire Rec.
Police will now meet Devonshire Rec. in the final this Saturday.
With the former long-serving club footballer Campbell leading the way, Stars made a spirited fight back after Police put up a mammoth total.
The former club stalwart (Campbell) dominated the bowling with his knock of 110 that saw him slam 11 fours and two sixes. But Stars ran short of their winning target of 344 with Tre Manders scoring 42 and Javanie Fubler 25.
Two Police bowlers turned in very respectable spells with the ball, Lavince Tota claiming four wickets for 48 off eight overs and Andy Cumberbatch taking two for 39 off nine overs – the duo playing leading roles in dismissing Stars in 49 overs.
Police had earlier showed their batting dominance with several players feasting off the meagre Stars' attack, Ronald Taylor top scoring with 81 that included 15 fours and a six.
Vincent Bradshaw followed on 73 (four fours and six sixes), Tre Simpson undefeated on 39 and Ferdinand Thorne 32.
Thorne and Bradshaw added 97 for the fifth wicket which was the largest partnership of the day.
The two most successful bowlers for Stars proved to be costly nevertheless, Javanie Fubler finishing with two for 62 off seven overs with a maiden while JaJa Millett claimed two for 71 off 10 overs with a maiden.
