Pot saved in penalty shoot-out

Commercial Cup holders Lobster Pot are through to the next round after triumphing on penalties over PHC who had forced a 3-3 draw with a last-minute spot-kick.

Shohaib Al Mehran got two first half goals at the Southampton Oval but Shawn Russell pulled one back for PHC while a Keith Bell effort evened things up with half an hour to go.

Pot striker Kevin Ronaldson was sent off in the second half but the cup holders felt they had wrapped it up with five minutes remaining when Troy Berkeley headed home from close range.

However, Pot keeper Brian Ward was penalised for a foul in the box and Alale Furbert fired home from the spot just before the final whistle.

But in the shoot-out it was Pot who prevailed.

Commercial 'A' side Tuff Dogs also go through on penalties after being forced to a 0-0 draw by Commercial 'B' team Somerset Extros who have yet to drop a league point.

High flying Commercial 'B' side Vasco Mariners collapsed against Commercial 'A' champions MR Onions, going down 6-0.

The two had met previously in this season's FA Cup and on that occasion Vasco made their opponents sweat for a 1-0 victory.

The upset didn't materialise, however, as Onions controlled the game from the outset with a fine display of attacking football. The impressive Darragh O'Donoghue opened the scoring with a strong run into the box and composed a left-foot finish. The lead was doubled shortly afterwards when an Eoghan O'Dwyer free kick was neatly headed home by Andy Starr.

O'Dwyer himself then got onto the scoresheet when he controlled a long O'Donoghue pass and finished after expertly rounding his marker and the goalkeeper.

The second half saw Vasco starting the stronger, but when a quick Onions free kick caused havoc in the Vasco box and a defender put the ball past his own keeper, the tie was effectively over.

Shortly afterwards, O'Donoghue added his second and Onions' fifth with arguably the goal of the day lobbing the keeper from outside of the box. The scoring was completed by substitute Desmond Thomas, who capitalised on a long ball forward which caused uncertainty in the Vasco backline.

Meanwhile, MR Onions' senior side – the Real Men – were dumped out of the competition by Robin Hood for the third year running.

This time Hood beat a depleted Onions team 2-0 with two goals from Des Minors that were almost identical – powerful headers from corners. The Real Men defended manfully and were in the game until the end and believed they were unlucky not to get a penalty.

Key West Rangers beat Hamilton Parish Workman's Club 6-3. Sergio Griffin and Troy Harvey got two goals apiece while Roy Stephens and Ricky Mallory also netted. Corey Hill banged in a penalty for Parish, Irving Burgess hit in a rebound from another Hill penalty while Greg Wilson notched with his head.

Elsewhere, it was all fairly routine. North Village Rams swamped Devonshire Rec Lions 11-1, BAA beat Pest Control 5-1 while St. George's went down 5-0 to visitors Dandy Town Roots.
