Premier talent on show in schools clash

Bermuda's finest student footballers will showcase their skills at the National Sports Centre today in the BSSF All-Star games.

Matches start at 11.30a.m., with the highlight of the six East v West games being the senior boys' clash at 7 p.m.

The game promises to be an exciting affair as many of the players featured are currently playing in the Premier or First Divisions.

And two overseas college coaches will be flying in to watch the games.

Giovani Pacini from Leselle College and Tom Gott from Lenior-Rhyne College are hoping they will be able find a player or two to bolster their teams for next season.

The West will feature the sublime skills of Boulevard's Quadir Maynard and Somerset Eagles' Troy Tucker in the middle of the park.

They will be pulling all the strings for a team which also boasts impressive wingers in Berkeley team-mates Donte Brangman and Devonshire Cougars' Lejaun Simmons.

Berkeley's Aaron Nelson and Damali Bell will join forces with Boulevard team-mate Nelson Smith from Warwick Academy to shore up a tight defence. Warwick's Justin Sousa who features regularly for North Village will probably complete the back four.

The East also features some quality players. Somerset Eagles will be well represented with Saltus' Daniel Andrade, Rakeem DeShield, Tariq Sabir and CedarBridge's Jaylon Bather.

BHS and North Village midfielder Jonathan Briers will be hoping to counter the West midfield with his timely tackles.

The East also welcome back from school Kamau Leverock who studies at Petra Academy. CedarBridge goalkeeper Corey Richardson was a busy man last week in helping his side to a shoot-out victory over Berkeley. The St. David's keeper will have to be on his game again if his side are to have any chance to win.

Today's games will kick off with the Primary School girls match which starts at 11.30 a.m.

Although still very much in its infacy at this level, the standard of girls football continues to rise.

They will be followed at 1 p.m. by the primary boys, a game in which The West are once again favourites, featuring players from six-a-side champions Saltus and three-time Knock-Out Cup champions Paget Primary.

Making their debut in this year's event will be the middle school girls (2.30 p.m). This match seems to be quite evenly balanced. The East will rely on the leadership of Clearwater's Aaliyah Nolan while the West will look to use the pace of Warwick's Esaiah Lister and Sandys' Coyshea Fox.

In the boys' game, The West will look to avenge last year's 1-0 loss. Sandys Secondary Middle School's Justin Donawa was in devastating form last week when he led his school to a 4-1 victory over East Zone champions Whitney Institute. This promises to be another close encounter as both teams feature a long list of quality players.

The senior school girls game (5.30 p.m.) promises to be the most one-sided affair of the day.

West will be able to call on the combined talents of the Berkely and Warwick team who played each other in an eight-goal thriller in last week's schools final.

Dominique Richardson will lead the line having banged in four goals last weekend and will be joined by Village team-mate Yanna Ballantyne.
