Rams, Town prepare for another cup showdown

Kofi Dill: Anticipates another tough battle when his North Village team take on Dandy Town in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

North Village stalwart Kofi Dill is confident Rams can burst the bubble of high-flying Dandy Town when the two Premier Division rivals clash in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup next month.

The pair were pitted together during yesterday's cup draw and will do battle at Bernard Park on February 22 in what promises to be another intriguing match-up between two of the Island's most decorated clubs.

Dill, who forms the backbone of Rams' defence, reckons his team can rise to meet the challenge from a team now coached by former Village coach Scott Morton.

"Town are always a difficult proposition and they are also riding high at the moment," said Dill yesterday. "But if we can put our best foot forward then I think we can handle them.

"We have beat them once already this season and hopefully we can beat them again."

The two teams always seem to bring the best out of each other and so expectations will again be high when they meet for the fourth time this season in next month's clash.

And there has been no shortage of drama when these two sides have met this season as they have banged in a combined 17 goals in three encounters, with Rams winning the last 3-1 earlier this month which dumped Hornets out of the Friendship Trophy.

Town clobbered Rams 7-4 last September in the Martonmere Cup and were then held to a 1-1 stalemate in a November 23 Premier meeting at Bernard Park which saw Shaun Goater's team finally collect their first league points of the season at home.

"We have a had a tough run at home this year but lately it has been getting better," Dill added. "We just had a couple of unlucky breaks."

Rams have only won three matches at home so far this campaign but have gone unbeaten since losing to Devonshire Cougars 4-2 in last November's Martonmere Cup final.

Since taking over the helm from former Bermuda and Village team-mate Elliott Jennings, Goater has settled in nicely at his childhood club and current form suggests Rams are going from strength to strength.

"Shaun has definitely made a big impact since his arrival and the guys are very motivated and realise what is required of them," Dill added. "The guys realise it is going to take hard work to get our season back on track.

"The players are now more committed and have really gelled together nicely. And the hard work that we are now putting in is one of the reasons why we have had a bit of success lately."

The last time Rams hoisted the revered showpiece was at the end of the 2005-06 season when they beat Hornets 4-1 in extra-time at the National Sports Centre.

"If we can stick to our game plan then hopefully we can come out on top again," added Dill.

Meanwhile, the FA Cup quarter-final draw saw holders PHC Zebras pitted against whipping boys Devonshire Colts at Southampton Oval and 2006-07 beaten finalists Boulevard given which, on paper, would appear to be a relatively easy task against First Division Prospect at Police Field.

The other remaining First Division club, Somerset Eagles, will do battle with Southampton Rangers at White Hill Field in a West End derby.

In the Women's FA Cup elimination draw, North Village Lady Rams were pitted with Prospect Lady Panthers in a match that will precede next month's Rams and Hornets' clash at Bernard Park.
