Defender Kevin Richards showed his team's shot-shy strikers how to finish by grabbing a dramatic last gasp equaliser against Charlotte Eagles in Bermuda Hogges' final home game of the season.
Hogges' desperate gamble of switching Richards from centre half to up front midway through the second half paid off as his glancing header slipped through the fingers of the Eagles goalkeeper to rescue a point at the National Sports Centre on Saturday night.
In was a moment to savour for Richards who could have made his last Hogges appearance for some time with the ACE employee set to head to the United States to pursue a Masters Degree.
Richard's, whose passionate goal celebration earned him a yellow card, is unavailable for next weekend's curtain call at Real Maryland Monarchs and assistant coach Jack Castle said it was fitting for him to sign off with a goal.
"We threw Kevin on up front and it really was a gamble that paid off for us," Castle said. "It was important to end on a high note at home at least."
Hogges should have been two goals up before the half hour mark with both Antwan Russell and Domico Coddington missing glorious one-on-one chances.
And they were made to pay for their profligacy with Eagles taking the lead soon after when Jorge Herrera calmly slotted home a pass from Ben Page.
It seemed as though Hogges were heading for defeat before Richards headed home Blenn Bean's cross in the 89th minute, although Eagles nearly restored the lead with Tokia Russell having to hack the ball off the line.
Hogges take on Real Maryland Monarchs at the Richard Montgomery High School on Saturday.
