Robinson on fire for Tsunamis
Hamilton Tsunamis 60
Pembroke Cane Toads 49
Graham Robinson scored 31 points to lead the Hamilton Tsunamis to a win over the Pembroke Can Toads.
Coming off a devastating buzzer beater loss to the Devonshire Dragons in their last outing, the Hamilton Tsunamis were determined not to succumb the same fate to the second seed Pembroke Cane Toads.
Robinson found his shot early and attacked the Cane Toads defence with his jump shot. Scoring ten of the Tsunamis 23 half-time points, Hamilton took a one-point lead going into the half.
In the second half, Pembroke's guard Corey Vance scored seven quick points to give his team a 29-23 lead over the Tsunamis.
As a result of Vance's scoring, Hamilton decided to slow the pace of the game and feed their centre, Greg Todd over the next possessions.
This proved to pay off as Todd scored the Tsunamis next six points and tied the game at 29-29.
As the Cane Toads struggled from the field, Robinson continued to shoot lights out, connecting on back to back three pointers to lead a 10-0 run by the Tsunamis.
Todd grabbed four of his game-high eight rebounds off a series of missed jump shots by the Cane Toads guards and Robinson would seal the Cane Toads fate with his fourth three pointer in the second half to give his team a double digit lead in the final minute of action.
Corey Vance scored 15 points in a losing effort for the Cane Toads.
St. George's 94
Warwick Rim Rockers 54
St. George's International got 21 points from Charjuan Knight and 20 from Shawn Swainson as they thrashed the winless Warwick Rim Rockers.
In search of their first win of the season, the 0-9 Rim Rockers knew it was going to be a difficult task against as St. George's with forward Knight returning to action.
To compliment Knight in the post, St. George's had the 6'5" centre Dean Jones to give St. George's a twin tower combination.
Warwick kept the game close after the ten minutes of action in the first half thanks to Dion Bean hitting two of five from the three-point arc.
Despite Warwick trailing St. George's 25-21 with five minute remaining in the first half, costly turnovers by Warwick's guards saw St. George's lead balloon to double digits going into the second half.
Scoring at will in the post, St. George's quickly took a 45-28 lead with fourteen minutes remaining.
Things would get progressively worse for the winless Rim Rockers as they saw a 17 point deficit quickly turn into a 25 point deficit after a break-a-dunk by Dean Jones ignited St. George's.
A reverse dunk by Damon Saunders followed by three open lay-ups for Shawn Swainson gave St. George's a commanding 70-42 lead with six minutes remaining and they saw the match out.
Bean was the high man for the Rim Rockers with 24 points.
Southampton Titans 55
Somerset Flyers 39
After starting out the season 5-0 and losing their last four games, Somerset couldn't get back to winning ways with a loss at the hands of the 2-6 Southampton Titans.
With the addition of Canadian guard Liam Wyatt, Southampton's point guard struggles appeared to be a thing of the past. With an experienced leader in the backcourt, Titans leading scorer Husayne Symonds was finally able to focus on his two strong points; scoring and defence.
The Titans defensive intensity out the gate was high and lead to an early 11-2 lead over the Flyers.
Titans forward, Markez Laws came off the bench scoring seven of his game high 19 points to give his team a 29-19 lead after twenty minutes.
The second half was full of shooting woes for the Flyers.
As the Titans continued their aggressive defensive, Somerset was unable to connect on a series of baskets in the key.
Jonathan Lowe did not receive much help from his team-mates in the second half as the Titans extended their lead to 15 points with ten minutes remaining.
Despite Southampton going on a scoring drought in the last two minutes, Somerset were unable to capitalise, scoring a low 39 points and losing their fifth straight game to the Titans.
Somerset's leading scorer was Jonathan Lowe who dropped in 17 points.
