Dandy Town skipper Tokia Russell hailed his troops after a well earned win over Boulevard Blazers at St. John's Field.

Much has been said and written about the two teams and their ground-sharing agreement, yet it was the landlords who made it clear St.John's Field is still their domain.

"It was a hard fought match between two good sides and we did the necessary things to get the job done," said Hornets new-boy Tokia Russell.

It was a tale of two halves for Hornets who played second fiddle for much of the first half and seemed unable to find their rhythm.

Takeyhi Walker and Niko Smith both went close for Blazers as they tried to get the early initiative, but both efforts where cleared off the line.

At the end of the half Damon Ming zig-zagged his way to the touchline but sailed his effort high and wide from six yards out.

After the break, it was Hornets who were the better side and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 55 minutes when Jamel Swan ghosted deep into blazers territory and swung a ball near post for Raymond Beach to tap in.

Two minutes later, a theatrical run from Jared Peniston resulted in a free kick that was ripped into the side netting from Nahki Wells.

Lashun Dill then had a chance to add to the lead but flashed his chance over the bar.

Beach had another chance to add to his early tally after Dill beat his marker on the touchline, only for the striker to miscue his shot.

However, the points were wrapped up in the 77th after Swan was bought down in the box and Dill placed his spot kick safely to the right of the keeper.

It could have gotten worse in the two minutes later, but Dill rattled the crossbar from point blank range.

In the end it was a well-earned win for a side that lost a heap of players during the off-season.

"We thought that if we got the ball down and played we would be okay," added Russell.

"We though if we plugged along we would always be in the match, and with a prolific striker like Beach up front all it takes is one chance.

"Unpredictable is what we are in a sense but we have a good nucleus of guys with four or five guys being Bermuda Hogges players so we will be alright."
