Season's a success win or lose

Arsenal coach John Barry Nusum is one victory away from winning his club's first ever Island Soccer League title in his first year at the helm when his team clash with Storm tonight at the National Sports Centre.

Having thrashed Kings 9-2 on Thursday night in their semi-final game, the side that went winless in their first year could be at the summit of the league come the final whistle, something Nusum is relishing.

"It feels good to be in the position I am in as coach," said Nusum. "This is my first year in the ISL and to have an opportunity to win the title in my first year is great. We are ready.

"It has come down to winning one game and you win it all so, we are as ready as we can be."

Arsenal were one of the Storm's victims in last year's play-offs, thumped 8-1 in their semi showdown, on their way to finishing runners-up.

While it will be their third successive final, winning in 2008 and losing last year, Nusum reckons it will be a highly entertaining match.

One of the main reasons his side have achieved their success this year is their focus on the defensive side of the game.

In a format known for high scoring games and fast paced action, Arsenal have used a defensive approach to the game, concentrating on stopping their opponents while looking to create goals on the counter.

With the system working thus far for the side, the former Crystal Palace Baltimore striker believes the season can already be deemed a success regardless of tonight's result.

"Obviously everyone wants to win, no one goes on the pitch to lose, so our concept as a team is to start from the back and play and so far we've played good football.

"Defensively we are doing well and we need to keep it up until the end.

"I can't speak for the Storm and their strategy but for us I believe that if we can hold teams down and get our goals here and there we will be in with a great chance of winning.

"Our season has been a success either way you look at it.

"For the name brand of Arsenal in previous years to now it has been a big step-up, we have players who have been consistently available and training hard, so no matter what happens I am proud of the guys.

"It has been a great season but obviously you want to go out and win the championship."
