Smith fifth in long jump final

Bermuda long jumper Tyrone Smith finished fifth at the Commonwealth Games men's long jump on Saturday.

Smith, who won a gold medal at the CAC Games, posted a leap of 7.76 metres.

The event was won by Australia's Fabrice Lapierre who jumped 8.30 metres.

Meanwhile, sprinter Tre Houston missed out on reaching yesterday's finals of the 200 metres in New Delhi.

Houston finished in sixth place in the semis with a time of 21.25 seconds. England's Leon Baptiste, who posted a time of 20.45, won the final.

In round one of the 200 metres on Saturday, Houston placed third with a time of 21.42 seconds. He then ran a quicker time in the second round (21.06) to finish third again.

In tennis, the player who defeated Bermuda's Gavin Manders in the first round of the men's singles, Australian Greg Jones went on to collect the silver medal. Jones was beaten in the final by the top seed, India's Somdev Devvarman, 6-4, 6-2.
