Spin king Leverock bowls team to win
Bermuda 237 for nine
Tuks Academy 67
Bermuda win by 170 runs
Dwayne Leverock issued a timely reminder to coach Gus Logie that he's still the 'spin king' by claiming four wickets during Bermuda's thrashing of Tuks Academy in Pretoria, South Africa.
Four years on from Bermuda's greatest cricketing triumph at the ICC Trophy, "Sluggo" yesterday confirmed he is still as hungry as ever by making a mockery of suggestions he only just sneaked into Logie's World Cup qualifying squad.
It's thought the big spinner was the chief beneficiary of Delyone Borden's jettisoning after the allrounder walked off the pitch over a pay dispute in the Caribbean recently.
But yesterday Leverock showed once again why his nagging left-arm slow bowling will be crucial if Bermuda are to repeat their memorable feat in Ireland back in 2005 and reach cricket's showpiece competition.
On a wicket condusive to spin, Leverock and his young pretender Rodney Trott helped themselves to seven wickets, ripping through Tuk Academy's brittle batting with the hosts crawling to just 67 runs off 26.4 overs in reply to Bermuda's 237.
Skipper Irving Romaine, who won the toss and elected to bat, led the charge with a confidence-boosting 59 while evergreen strokeplayers Glenn Blakeney (34), David Hemp (34) and Janeiro Tucker (24) all enjoyed valuable time at the crease.
Master blaster Lionel Cann (21) was shuffled up the order to open with Fiqre Crockwell in the absence of Chris Douglas who has been ruled out of the qualifiers with a broken thumb.
Bermuda have now won both their opening warm-up matches as they groove their way into form ahead of next week's World Cup qualifiers.
They are in warm-up action again tomorrow.
