West and Roy steal the show

Eric West's round of seven-under par and Scott Roy's hole-in-one were the highlights of yesterday's quarter-finals of the Fritz Reiter BPGA Match Play Championships at Belmont Hills.

West had to play some of the best golf of his career to get past a stubborn Daniel Augustus, eventually prevailing four and two.

Roy's ace came on the par-three seventh on his way to a four and two win over Quinton Sherlock.

In the other two matches, defending champion Steven Roy outduelled Twilton Smith four and two while Monday's top qualifier Dwayne Pearman got by Paul Adams four and two.

Today's semi-finals will see brothers Scott and Steven Roy battle for a place in the final, and Pearman taking on West is likely to be a close encounter.

The 36-hole final will be played tomorrow along with a lucky losers match.

Jamaicans and Masters inMemorial game

The Jamaican Association will be looking to exact revenge for last year's loss to the Bermuda Masters in the second annual Warrington (Soup) Zuill Memorial next weekend at St. David's Cricket Club, starting at 1.00 p.m.

The match will be the second of two games on the day, with two Select sides made up of verteran players as well as relatives of Zuill playing each other in a Twenty20 match starting at 9.30 a.m.

Captains for the teams will grandsons Davon Govia and Aljame Zuill, now at Devonshire Cougars.

Lambe features in reserveteam loss

Reggie Lambe could not prevent Ipswich Town reserves from slipping to 2-0 defeat against Oxford United at Portman Road yesterday.

The Bermuda international had two decent goalscoring chances but was twice denied by Oxford goalkeeper Simon Eastwood.

Sam Deering and Richie Baker were both on target for the visitors.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane watched the game with first team coach Tony Loughlan and chief scout Steve McCall.

n Bermuda Hogges captain Marquel Waldron scored for the West Florida men's university team in their 3-2 win at Tennessee Wesleyan last weekend.

Defender Alex Dumond scored Florida's other two goals,while Frank Cope and Martyn Freestone were the Wesleyan scorers.
